For me personally, Arran usually is a bit boring. Always above par, mostly without off-notes but never really outstanding or stunning. This Arran - one of the oldest till now - is different. It's fruity with quite some complexity. Good cask selection by the lads of CasQueteers. Thanks, Robert for attending me on this bottle.
    • Nose
Elstar apples mixed with barley sugar, that's my first impression of this Arran. Followed by conference pears and gooseberries. Hay and a little lavender as well. Flowers of orange blossoms and freesias in the background. It all has a slightly metallic edge.
    • Taste
Fruitiness again but more on the citric side of the spectrum; lemon, pineapple cubes, and kiwi. Beautiful bitter-sweetness of grapefruit. Whiff of honey-clover and a little vanilla. Later on more on cinnamon and gingerbread. Toasted almonds. Very light oak influence. A nice surprise!
    • Finish
Medium long. A little black pepper and some ginger. Toffee and the end. Well-balanced Arran. One of the better ones I've tasted so far. Exciting to see how Arran will develop when it gets older and older.

    Apple Fritters

If you remember that the first drops of spirit trickled from the stills at Arran in 1995, then you know that this is a rather special release. The whisky matured for a quarter century on a hogshead, which I believe to have held bourbon. My buddy Bob recently came over for a visit and had brought this bottle along. We opened it together – always a magical moment – poured it, tasted it and realized it was good. Very good, in fact.

Delicious nose on overripe pear, apple fritters and apricot pastry. Deep fried donut balls! The a hint of Superman logos (the peach candy) and some freshly cut grass. This is outstanding.

Good mouthfeel and perfectly integrated alcohol. Some woodspice give it warmth, while vanilla makes it very sweet. Almost candy-like. The but fruit shines through admirably: apples, pears, peach with a hint of pineapple on the BBQ.

The finish is not only long and softly spicy, but moreover deliciously sweet and satisfying without even the slightest bite or bitterness.

Kudos to the boys and girls from CasQueteers who selected the cask. Taking part in their cask program enabled you to get two of these for only 110 EUR a bottle. That’s a steal! Thx, Bob!

A very fine dram and a different, independent, take on Arran. Arran doesn't need wine/sherry casks to be enjoyed! Still, it unfortunately also has this his dry and bitter herbal finish I often experience with Arran.

A rather different nose than the offical bottlings: some glue at first, followed by wave of 'green' fruits and spices. Green apples, citrus fruits, starfruit, gooseberry, elderflower, lemon grass and peppermint. Impressive!
    • Taste
      89 89
It's sweeter on the palate: orange candy, golden kiwi, elderflower cordial, marzipan and aniseed.
    • Finish
      85 85
Spicier with aniseed, cardamom and peppermint. Some citrus fruits and sweet vanilla. Becomes more oaky and ultimately dry.

Interesting combi between mature and still quite fresh 25 year old Arran.
    • Nose
Very fruity - overripe melon, papaya, stewed pears and citrus fruits like grapefruit and orange. Marzipan, almond, oily and leather.
    • Taste
Almonds and again a lot of fruits - pear, mineola, lychees and melon. Later an earthy note and some spices - cinnamon and cumin.
    • Finish
Characteristically Arran apple, fresh bitter citrus, ginger and some honey notes.
